Saturday has become my most favourite day of the week. This is simply for the same reason it is probably every 9-5 working professional's favourite day; it's a day where your own decisions take the lead. There are endless opportunities to make your weekend a good one.You can sleep past your alarm or wake up before the dawn. You can watch movies in your jammies or you can visit family and friends. The beauty of a Saturday is that you don't have to justify your productivity or lack there of.
I've been excited for this Saturday since... well, last Saturday. When I stopped being a student I developed a new-found appreciation for sleep. I love it. I crave it. Sometimes I wake up in the morning completely rested and I still can't wait to climb into bed that night. I'm not tired all the time, so what gives? I think I'm growing wise with age. I honour my body with sleep because I know it thanks me for it. Gone are the days of partying and staying up till 5. In are the days of 10 o'clock bedtimes. Sometimes I struggle with my new mentality. Like right now I have plans to have drinks with some friends in the evening and a voice in the back of my mind keeps nagging me: "But what about your bedtime?" I may have to drown that voice in wine and remind it that I'm only 23.
The beauty of a Saturday is that a Sunday comes after it. Even if I am exhausted tomorrow and my sleepless self is mad, I have another night of sleep-sweet-sleep to make me productive on Monday.
